Let’s talk about the 500W Carbon Fiber IR Lamp

If you need heat—and you need it now—you’re probably looking at carbon fiber. We built this 500W lamp for those specific jobs where waiting for a heater to warm up just isn’t an option. Instead of the old-school metal coils, we use a carbon fiber filament tucked inside a quartz tube. It sounds like a small change, but it completely changes how the heat actually hits your workpiece.

Heat that actually stays even

At 500W, you’re dealing with a serious amount of concentrated energy. The cool thing about carbon fiber is that it spreads the heat evenly across the whole tube. You don’t get those annoying hot spots that tend to warp thin plastics or scorch your coatings. It’s consistent. And the speed? It’s nearly instant. You flip the switch, and the heat is there. No idling, no waiting.

What’s under the hood

We use high-purity quartz for the envelope. Why? Because cheap glass clouds up or cracks when you cycle the temperature quickly. This stuff holds up. Inside, the carbon fiber does the heavy lifting. It handles the electrical load without sagging, which is a huge headache with those older wire-wound heaters. **One quick warning though:**be obsessive about your voltage. If you push too much voltage through, you’ll fry the filament in a few hours. Too little, and you’ll never hit the surface temperature you need. Get it exactly right.

Making it work in your shop

These are great for PET blowing, curing paint, or running drying lines. In most cases, you can just swap them into your existing shortwave IR systems. But there is a catch. Carbon fiber is more brittle than metal. If your machine shakes or vibrates a lot, you risk snapping the filament. To avoid that, make sure your mounting brackets are solid and isolate the lamp from the chassis. Also, check your wiring. You want to make sure it can handle the continuous current draw so you don’t see your voltage drop right at the terminals.
