Let’s talk about 590mm Carbon Infrared Heat Lamps
When you’re looking at a 590mm carbon heat lamp, try not to think of it as just another tube. It’s more about how you want the heat to move. Most people are used to standard quartz halogen lamps, but these carbon versions do things differently. They use a carbon-fiber heating element, which is a big deal. It means the heat spreads out evenly across that entire 590mm length. You don’t get those annoying hot spots that usually fry shorter, high-wattage tubes. It’s just… consistent.
Power, Voltage, and the Trade-offs
The price and the way these perform mostly come down to the wattage-to-voltage ratio. You’ll usually find these in medium-to-large industrial ovens or PET blowing machines. We usually see them set up for 230V or 400V. Here’s a pro tip: if you go with the higher voltage, you can pull less current for the same amount of heat. That means you can get away with thinner wiring in your control panels, which makes your life a lot easier. But you have to be careful with the wattage. If you want things to heat up instantly, you’ll want higher wattage. Just keep in mind that pushing them too hard puts a lot of stress on the quartz glass. It’s a balancing act.
The Build and the Connectors
The outer sleeve is made of high-purity quartz. We use this because it can handle the carbon element expanding and contracting as it heats up without just cracking under the pressure. For the fit, most of these use R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re basically drop-in replacements. They snap in tight, which is exactly what you want—no loose connections and no scary electrical arcing at the terminals. As for the heat itself, these give off a medium-wave output. Now, they aren’t quite as “instant” as short-wave halogens, but they have a secret weapon: they sink deeper into materials like plastics and coatings.
Real-World Advice
These lamps are absolute workhorses for curing stations and drying lines. They just keep going. One thing to watch out for: if you’re packing these into a high-density array, things get hot. Really hot. The heat buildup inside the lamp housing is no joke. Make sure your cooling fans are actually beefy enough to handle the rise in temperature. If you skim on the fans, your connector housings will probably fail way sooner than they should.
